An industrious group of Girl Scouts sold hundreds of boxes of their signature cookies after setting up shop outside of a Chicago cannabis dispensary over the weekend.
In January, the state of Illinois rang in the New Year on a high note, legalizing the sale of recreational marijuana. On Sunday, youngsters from a local Girl Scout troop cashed in by peddling their famous cookies outside of a dispensary in the Andersonville neighborhood, reportedly charming customers and employees alike.
The marketing and outreach manager for the dispensary, Abigail Watkins, told Book Club Chicago, a local news organization. “The cookies they’re selling and our clientele, it’s a great match, As a former Girl Scout, I admire the hustle.” Well that is just adorable.
IN OTHER NEWS: President Trump requests additional funds to regulate CBD. It looks like good ol’ trump is getting some cool points. Hemp and CBD will be getting new attention by federal agencies under a 2021 budget plan released this week by President Trump.
Trump’s proposal asks for an additional $5 million dollars in the next fiscal year for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate cannabis and its derivatives, which includes CBD. Trump also asked for more money to oversee hemp farmers.
The proposal came as a response to the ever-increasing popularity of CBD products and the FDA’s year-long delay in the development of Hemp regulations. The FDA started to review CBD for regulations last year in May but has yet to publish anything
Trumps $5 million dollar boost will help to advance the FDA’s regulations for CBD products while also allowing the agency to begin enforcing the law against making unsubstantiated medical claims about cbd products.
Here is a statement by the FDA on the matter:
“FDA is seeing a significant increase in activity relating to the marketing of unlawful cannabis-derived products, especially those containing cannabidiol, since the Farm Bill passed.”
They have also noted that the 5 mil will be divided among different FDA Departments, The FDA Budget Request states:
“This new funding will enable FDA to continue regulating the usage of cannabis-derived substances, such as cannabidiol (CBD), in FDA-regulated products such as dietary supplements and when used as unapproved food and feed additives. The initiative will support regulatory activities, including developing policy, and continue to perform its existing regulatory responsibilities including review of product applications, inspections, enforcement, and targeted research,”
Hopefully this increase for the FDA will actually help to speed up the regulatory process.
